To say 23 started with a bang is the understatement of the century.
Let me start by saying that I LOVE my birthday—always have! I think it's because growing up, my mom made such a fuss about birthdays; a pretty bouquet of flowers on the kitchen table, birthday dinner at our favorite restaurant, beautifully wrapped presents, and over-the-top parties.
I might not have bday slumber parties with my friends anymore, but I have not outgrown the love of all things birthday.
Long story short, Blake (my soulmate) proposed on my birthday this year (March 21, 2018).
BEST. BIRTHDAY. EVER.
This is how it all went down:
Quick backstory, our first date was at the Dana Point Harbor, which was coincidentally his favorite place as well as mine. On that first date, we walked to this little pier at the harbor where we had our first kiss (kissing on the first date, so risqué I know). So that little pier is and always will be “our spot”. Every time we go to the harbor, we walk to our spot and steal a kiss!
For my birthday, I asked for a Polaroid camera. So we get to the harbor on my birthday and Blake has a little gift bag for me. I open the present and it’s my Polaroid camera and a box of Polaroid film. I don't think much of it other than “yay, got my camera!” and then I just carry the gift bag with me for the rest of our walk around the harbor. We get to our little spot on the pier and Blake says, “wanna set up your Polaroid?” and I was like “sure!”
So he takes out the box of film as if he was going to set up my camera AND A RING BOX WAS INSIDE THE FILM! I was carrying around my own engagement ring the whole time, unbeknownst to me! At this point, I have the biggest, most surprised smile on my face. He gets down on one knee (cue ugly crying) and says “you’re my soulmate. I love you so much. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Severina, will you be my wife?”
Through the happy tears, I go “yeah! YEAH!!!!!!!”
I look down at my ring and scream because it is so beautiful. Lots of tears and kisses followed the proposal. There is no better feeling than knowing you’re going to spend the rest of your life with someone you’ve loved from the very beginning.
Blake’s mom popped out from her nearby hiding spot and then we all met up with my family for a birthday/engagement dinner—a perfect way to end the day!
I’m not sure how next year will be able to compete with the most perfect birthday proposal but….maybe a puppy @Blake? ;)
